State extraversion and emergent leadership: Do introverts emerge as leaders when they act like extraverts?

چکیده
Extraverts are more likely than introverts to emerge as leaders, however little is known about the explicit behaviours that cause such an advantage and what can do overcome their relative disadvantage. Utilising experiment (n = 601) in a group context, we assessed effects of manipulating state extraversion on peer-rated emergent leadership, self-rated post-activity affect. Participants completed big five personality measure were randomly assigned one three conditions: control condition, ‘act extraverted’ treatment, or introverted’ treatment. Results confirmed extraverts' leadership but demonstrated was proximal with both extraverts emerging leaders when instructed act extraverted. Acting introverted i) had particularly deleterious effect regardless trait extraversion, ii) caused reduction positive affect for ambiverts not introverts, iii) increase negative introverts.

Do extraverts process social stimuli differently from introverts?
The personality trait of extraversion has been linked to the network of brain systems controlling sensitivity to cues of reward and generating approach behavior in response, but little is known about whether extraverts' neural circuits are especially sensitive to social stimuli, given their preference for social engagement. Utilizing event-related potential (ERP) methodology, this study demonst...
متن کاملPopularity, similarity, and the network extraversion bias.
Using the emergent friendship network of an incoming cohort of students in an M.B.A. program, we examined the role of extraversion in shaping social networks. Extraversion has two important implications for the emergence of network ties: a popularity effect, in which extraverts accumulate more friends than introverts do, and a homophily effect, in which the more similar are two people's levels ...
متن کاملAre Dishonest Extraverts More Harmful than Dishonest Introverts? The Interaction Effects of HonestyHumility and Extraversion in Predicting Workplace Deviance
Honesty-Humility, one of the six major personality dimensions included in the HEXACO model of personality structure, has previously been found to show negative correlations with workplace deviance. In this study, we hypothesised that Extraversion would moderate the relationship between Honesty-Humility and workplace deviance. In particular, we posited that the relation between Honesty-Humility ...
متن کاملExpectation of success following noncontingent punishment in introverts and extraverts.
Recent findings indicate that extraverts are more likely than introverts to continue responding in the face of punishment and frustrating nonreward (Newman & Kosson, 1984; Tiggemann, Winefield, & Brebner, 1982). The current study investigates whether extraverts' expectations for success are, similarly, resistant to interruption and alteration. To test this hypothesis, 50 introverted and 50 extr...
متن کاملRegional Patterns of Cortical Blood Flow Distinguish Extraverts from Introverts
Eysenck’s hypothesis of higher cortical arousal in introverts was examined using regional cerebral blood flow measurement in 37 healthy subjects. The measurement was made at rest. using the “)Xe-inhalation method. Estimates of gray matter flow were obtained for 32 brain regions. There was no significant evidence of personality differences in general arousal, as measured by the mean flow level, ...
